“Fundamental English Grammar: Theory and Practice” was written by Yoshinobu Hakutani, Professor of English and University Distinguished Scholar at Kent State University in Ohio. Years of knowledge and experience has allowed him to author and edit twenty-five books and many articles on literature and language. This particular book is an excellent text with the intent to be used for an introductory course in the fundamentals of English grammar.

This text was written to teach a very diverse group of students as they work through the pages. No previous training in linguistics or English grammar is needed in order to use the text. Target audiences include the following levels of education.

1. High school seniors who are preparing to go to collage would greatly benefit from “Fundamental English Grammar: Theory and Practice” if it is assisted by a high school teacher of English.

2. This text was initially written for undergraduate level students who have not studied the discipline for its own sake.

3. College graduates may want to revisit or review the subject matter. Such an individual can use the manual as a self-taught text.

After working through this well composed English grammar, the reader will be able to recognize, understand, and apply their knowledge when dealing with the fundamentals of English grammar.

This would be a great book to adopt for any classroom teaching English grammar, or for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of such a global language.
